Dry Needling at Iberia Medical Center

The Rehab Center at Iberia Medical Center is now offering dry needling services as a treatment option for various conditions. Led by IMC Physical Therapist, Lanie Rouly, DPT, dry needling is a physical therapy treatment intervention which requires specialized physical education and training for the utilization of such techniques. Lanie Rouly, DPT is board approved as she meets all of the Louisiana Physical Therapy Board requirements for the practice of dry needling.

“Our organization is committed to supporting professional growth of our therapists to ensure our community receives the highest quality of evidence-based treatment.  We are excited to offer this treatment technique as a part of individualized physical therapy intervention” said Courtney Dore, LOTR, Rehab Services Manager.

During a dry needling treatment, a very fine filament needle is inserted through the skin and into the deeper tissues that are considered trigger points to pain. The treatment works by causing a small lesion within the muscle tissue and surrounding soft tissues which creates a chemical and neurological response, allowing the muscle to relax. This then creates a local healing response, thus reducing pain and restoring range of motion and movement. Dry needling is a safe technique for treating many musculoskeletal conditions.

A physical therapy evaluation will indicate the location, intensity and persistence of neuromuscular pain or functional deficiencies in a patient and the propriety for utilization of dry needling as a treatment intervention. The number of dry needling sessions needed differ as each patient will receive a customized treatment plan tailored specifically to their medical situation.

A doctor’s order is required to begin the evaluation and treatment process.
