Iberia Medical Center has expanded its advanced cardiac imaging capabilities with the addition of cardiac positron emission tomography- computed tomography (Cardiac PET/CT) scanner, bringing highly accurate and efficient heart diagnostics closer to home for patients in the community.
The state-of-the-art technology located on Iberia Medical Center’s North Campus, is enhancing patient care by delivering faster exams, lower radiation exposure and more precise results in detection of coronary artery disease — strengthening the hospital’s comprehensive cardiovascular program and improving the overall patient experience.
Patients benefit from improved efficiencies - from receiving a stress test while simultaneously undergoing a computed tomography (CT) scan along with it, which also significantly improving diagnostic accuracy.
This powerful diagnostic tool helps physicians investigate patient symptoms possibly associated with heart blockages. For patients already diagnosed with heart disease, the cardiac PET/CT scan can provide critical information about the severity of condition, guiding treatment strategies.
“The cardiac PET/CT allows us to assess heart function with exceptional detail - analyzing blood flow, identifying damaged tissue, and detecting coronary artery disease with remarkable precision, enabling us to evaluate with greater accuracy and enhance diagnostic precision, all while bringing our patients the most advanced technology that is improving patient care and outcomes,” said Dr. Krishna Nagendran, interventional cardiologist at Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS).
“The addition of cardiac PET/CT represents a significant step forward in how we diagnose and treat heart disease – bringing our community access to one of the most advanced, accurate and noninvasive technologies available today,” states Dionne Viator, CEO, Iberia Medical Center.
