August is National Breastfeeding Month- a month dedicated to celebrating and promoting breastfeeding and the benefits that come with it.
“Breastfeeding provides a great start for your baby. It is an awesome way to boost the baby’s immune system by providing natural antibodies from the maternal system. As a mother of premature twins, breastmilk offered them a healthy start and assisted in avoiding many complications from a premature birth. For mothers, breastfeeding can assist in returning to pre-pregnancy weight, can decrease the risk of certain breast/ovarian cancers, and no worries in having to mix formula when you are on the go!” says Heather Huynh, Breastfeeding Instructor, MSN, BSN, RNC-OB
Iberia Medical Center offers breastfeeding education and support classes instructed by highly trained registered nurses to answer any questions. The class teaches the benefits of breastfeeding, pumping techniques, storage methods, comfortable positioning and more. Whether you’re a new mom just starting your breastfeeding journey or seeking additional guidance, the Maternal/Child Services team at Iberia Medical Center is here to enhance the bonding experience between you and your baby.
