SUSPENSION OF ELECTIVE SURGERIES AND PROCEDURES

Hospitals across the country are changing the way care is delivered to prevent COVID-19 exposure to patients, staff and physicians. Iberia Medical Center continues to take a proactive approach to addressing the rapidly changing environment regarding the protection of the hospital and the community. "Hospital leadership and our physicians continue to receive daily guidance from the Louisiana Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).  Our hospital and community preparedness is our top priority as we plan for the immediate future healthcare needs under these current circumstances,” states Dionne Viator, Iberia Medical Center CEO.

Today, the Louisiana Department of Health issued a directive to all hospitals in the state to suspend all scheduled/elective surgeries and procedures. This will go into effect immediately.

Iberia Medical Center will continue to perform urgent and emergency surgeries. Physicians, with guidance from IMC Surgical Services, will ultimately be responsible for the determination of whether the procedure or surgery is urgent or an emergency, and what is in the best interest of the patient.
