  • Gather medical records, your birth plan or breastfeeding care plan, copies of social security card and birth certificate in a waterproof folder or sealed container in an easy place to grab.
  • Know the signs & symptoms of preterm labor: change in your vaginal discharge or more vaginal discharge than usual, pressure in your pelvis or lower belly, like your baby is pushing down, constant low, dull backache, belly cramps with or without diarrhea, regular or frequent contractions that make your belly tighten like a fist, loss of your mucus plug, your water breaking
  • Have the names and numbers of your obstetrician, pediatrician, and lactation counselors saved in phone and written down with evacuation kit.
  • Be proactive- this isnít the time to delay going to the hospital. If you are planning on evacuating, get in contact with your provider to see if they have colleagues local to your destination whom they would recommend. Your provider is responsible for helping you with transfer of your medical care.
