New Iberia's Hospital of Choice
Since 1960, Iberia Medical Center has been dedicated to helping you and your family maintain good health.

It's a commitment we bring you 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through a full range of services. The care you receive from our professional staff is always delivered with a spirit of compassion and concern. From our beginnings as a community project of the local Lions Club, Iberia Medical Center was created with the establishment of Hospital Service District No. 1 in 1951. Over the next nine years, the Lions Club worked with the Iberia Parish Police Jury, the culmination of their efforts resulting in the opening of Iberia Parish Hospital on September 13, 1960.
In 1981, our facility expanded to become Iberia General Hospital, undergoing a $10.8 million construction project to add a fourth wing to the existing building. During the 1990s, our services expanded to include home health, behavioral health and rehabilitation, and the facility became Iberia Medial Center to reflect the broader base of services provided to our community.
Over the last ten years IMC's operating success has resulted in a 4% surplus. As a not-for-profit, community hospital, all profits are invested back into our community through expanding technology, upgrading facilities, and improving operations.
The hospital, which is licensed for 101 acute care beds, accommodates medical, surgical, obstetric, pediatric, and intensive care patients, offering a full range of technical and professional services to meet the community healthcare needs for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency care. Approximately 500 full time equivalent professional, technical, and support staff are employed by the organization at an annual payroll of $26 million. The operating budget for the organization is approximately $55 million. Property, plant, and equipment are currently valued at about $28 million.
Outpatient business has increased significantly over the last few years and currently revenues from outpatient services exceed those generated from inpatient care. Our services have expanded to focus on Children's Services through our Children's Center, Children's Practice and KidMed programs. We provide outreach and primary care services through the Jeanerette Rural Health Clinic, and we have established physician practices for Cardiology, Family Medicine, General Surgery, Otolaryngology and Rheumatology. In addition, we have instituted a hospitalist program to provide hospital-focused care for patients who are admitted to our facility.
IMC's full time active medical staff is currently comprised of more than 100 members including family practitioners, pediatricians, obstetrician/gynecologists, general surgeons, ear nose and throat specialists, urologists, orthopedists, ophthalmologists, podiatrists, and dentists. Medical specialists include cardiologists, gastroenterologists, hematologists, nephrologists, neurologists, oncologists, pulmonologists, and rheumatologists. Other hospital-based physicians include anesthesiologists, radiologists, pathologists, emergency medicine physicians, and hospitalists. Together these physicians comprise the backbone of the local medical system. Their years of education, training, and experience provide residents of the area outstanding medical expertise.
With an increasing number of physicians desiring to locate their practices to IMC's hospital campus, we have made significant investments in physician office space. These include

Iberia Medical Center's regional market share has continued to increase during the past ten years, during which time approximately $25 million in investments have been made in improved facilities and new technology. The most recent facility improvement projects include renovation of inpatient nursing units and patient rooms, and new medical offices across from the hospital between St. Peter and East Main Streets. Current facility priorities include an upgrade to our intensive care unit (ICU) and improvements in the design and flow of outpatient services.
In 2010, technology improvements included the addition of a high definition surgical suite imaging system, a new state-of-the-art laboratory analyzer, new digital mammography equipment, a stereotactic breast biopsy service, a new urology imaging table, and a new digital mobile c-arm imaging system to aid in performing complex surgical procedures.
Iberia Medical Center is built on a strong foundation and as a pillar of the community, we are committed to continually improving our services. We measure our performance based on five pillar goals: service, quality, people, finance and growth.
Throughout its 50 year history, Iberia Medical Center has continued to grow and transform in an ever-changing health care environment. IMC continues to be recognized for its commitment to high quality medical care and patient, employee, and physician satisfaction. Customer service scores measured by the market research firm Press Ganey rank Iberia Medical Center's patient satisfaction compared to all hospitals nationally in the top 77th percentile for emergency care, top 78th percentile for outpatient care, and top 85th percentile for inpatient care. The hospital also received quality accolades for the care of patients with surgical procedures and cardiac conditions.
Iberia Medical Center continues to participate with local and regional educational organizations in the training of new professional staff nurses, dieticians, health information managers, licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants, and radiologic technologists.
